A disposable camera, an analogue film camera or a screen-free digital retro camera? They all give you that nostalgic feeling, but they work very differently. In this guide we compare them honestly, so you know which camera suits you.
What is a retro camera?
Most people mean a camera that looks and feels like the old days: compact, simple and no fuss. There are three kinds:
- Disposable camera (for example from Kodak or Fujifilm): a roll of around 27 photos, after which you get it developed.
- Reusable film camera: you buy a new roll each time and pay for developing every roll.
- Screen-free digital retro camera, like the ALUR One: the feeling of a disposable camera, but digital and reusable.
Disposable camera or digital retro camera?
Number of photos. A disposable camera usually has 27. A digital retro camera like the ALUR One takes up to 1000 per charge, and with an SD card you can keep going.
Cost. With a disposable camera you pay for the camera and developing every time. A digital retro camera you buy once and simply charge with USB-C.
Waiting time. Film photos need to be developed. With the ALUR One you plug the camera into your phone or laptop at home and your photos are right there.
The feeling. Neither has a screen to check your photos. You press the shutter and keep living. That's the magic: you're in the moment, not on your screen.
The look. Film has its own grain. The ALUR One has 8 film filters (retro, vintage, filmic, natural, polar, boost, mono and noir), so you choose how nostalgic it looks.
Who is a digital retro camera for?
- For anyone who wants to enjoy a city trip or holiday instead of filming it.
- For parties, birthdays and weddings, where guests become the photographers.
- For anyone who wants less screen time, or simply loves printing photos.
- As a gift for someone who loves vintage and memories.
Renting a retro camera for your wedding or party
Rather not buy? You can also rent ALUR cameras for your wedding, birthday or company party, in packs of 5, 10 or 20 cameras. A modern version of the disposable cameras on the tables, without developing costs. See the rental packs.
Why the ALUR One?
